Thinking Chapter 7

Thinking Chapter 7

Letter to “Ask Leon”

My ex step-dad (47 you) was in a horrible accident. Now have medical bills from hospital and other providers at over $400k due. He is self employed and has a minimal income. Has no health insurance coverage. Has a credit card balance of about $15k. Has been turned down for Medic-Cal (state of California’s Medicaid) and has no other options. Would chapter 7 be the correct bankruptcy to choose? **Also = is currently using credit card for household bills. If he files, when should the last charge be made on this credit card? Any advice you can give would be great. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Teri

Leon Says…

I am very sorry this has happened to him. It’s more complicated than you think, because he owns a business and he may have other assets that need to be considered. You should call me Monday am to discuss this in more detail. It really can’t be evaluated adequately via emails back and forth. You can reach me at 800-477-3111.Leon Bayer
