New credit

New credit

Letter to “Ask Leon”

If I claim bankruptcy can I get a student loan afterwards or within a year? Or two years? Can I build my credit up and get a loan. How long after bankruptcy is it really. I heard within two years! Thanks

Leon Says…

You should have no problem getting a student loan that you are otherwise eligible for. However, for your own peace of mind, ask the student aid office at the school where you plan to attend.

As to rehabilitating your credit generally, you need to make yourself “credit worthy.” That means a history of steady, dependable income and personal stability.
